The 90km will be exactly the same as the new 2011 Fairbairn Capital joBerg2c day 2 route. It will start in Frankfort and finish in Reitz where you can party with proper lang-arm dancing and real Free State atmosphere. Proceeds will go Reitz and Frankfort Schools. Entry fee for both the 90km and the 30km includes entrance fee to the Bielie Mielie Fees worth R60.
So if you have entered one of the big stage race events – like joBerg2c, Sani2c, and easy ones like the Epic (just kidding) – then this is the perfect training ride for you and your mates. If you haven’t it will be a great ride anyway.
Reitz show grounds is the finish venue for the 90km ride.

  2. Thanks Rick. I'll let you know where we will be riding. What sort of level are you?
BTW we are over nighting in Reitz after the Mielie Bielie. I must admit your option of staying in Clarens sounds much better

  6. Hi Corrie
I'm interested to hear what your sleeping arrangement is going to be for the joberg2c :-)

It would be great to catch up with fellow Joberg2c ers at the Bielie Mielie. We'll be the team in the red Provantage kit which you can view under our Team - Diepsloot Devils page

  8. Training is going very well (I Think). We haven't yet put in two very long rides back to back. I hope to soon just to get the confidence levels up. We will be doing the Mielie Bielie this weekend so hope that all the training will make the 90km a little easier.

  9. Bielie Mielie: 90 km of True Free State riding

Well done to the Subaru Team for arranging this fantastic ride and of course to all the farmers and families and schools that helped at the start, end and watering points.

What can I say, It was really tough. The mud, the rolling hills, the good spirit and the grub afterwards was unrelenting. And oh what fun at the Bielie Meilie Festival in Reitz afterwards. Hardly a 1.5 hour drive out of Joburg. More like a 3.5 hour drive if leaving on Friday afternoon through peak hour traffic.

One thing I can say is that I think my Joberg2c partner has been training on the sly. He had to waight for me quite a few times. I put my poor performance down to the long drive and the beer the night before.

I did meet an interesting chap while waiting in the toilet queue. He will be doing the Joberg2c for his second time but has also completed 3 Cape Epics, 6 Sani2c's, 1 Sabie Experience and I'm sure many others we didn't get a chance to talk about. I suspect he's not married and if he is, his wife also rides and they have no children. Whoever he was, it was nice to meet someone so passionate about the sport.

  10. Hi Jason,

How is the training coming along,I had a look at my Garmin stats and nearly fell over.

  11. Hi Corrie

Training is going very well but I really need to get a few 100km plus road rides in just to get my mind right for the longer 125km days on the joberg2c. Share some of your Garmin stats with us. It's bound to get a few butterflies going for those of us tracking behind the training curve.

    Chat later,
    Jason

  12. Hi Jason,
Just came back from a night ride in the cane fields good fun had a bit of rain.

    Some stats.
Distance: Just over 1800km's since January
    Elevation: 17142 metres of climbing
    Burnt 43672 calories
    Time in saddle 85 hours
    Time in gym 25
Average distance per ride 42 km's
Average speed 17kmph not bad considering the amount of climbing
    Average Temp: 26 degrees C

If you look at the time left with days of rest and tapering we are looking at just over 30 days of training left.

    Enjoy your training

    Regards
    Corrie

  13. That's incredible. The advantages of living near the coast! I think you have certainly done many more metres of climbing than us here in Gauteng. Actually it looks like you have done more of everything.

    Now I'm worried!
